By: Onye Ebonyi Ajah Obiahu.
Starting from 1963, under the 1963 Constitution, the first constitution of the Republic of Nigeria, President Buhari replaced the monarch as ceremonial head of state. The President was elected by Parliament for a five-year term. In the event of a vacancy the President of the Senate would have served as Acting President.

Goodluck Jonathan From 5 May 2010 to 29 May 2015.
Muhammadu Buhari 29 May 2015 till date.
From the fourth Nigerian republic former presidents Olusegun Obasanjo is the only person that has ruled Nigeria for complete 8 years and he want to maintain that title of being the only president that has ruled for 8 year.
Flashback: Obasanjo and Jonathan had been like father and son but their irreconcilable disagreements started when Jonathan declared his interest to rerun as president even Obasanjo denounced Jonathan accusing him of having squandered the country’s foreign reserves, without anything to show for it. He said Goodluck Jonathan from his first days as President showed he was too small for the office,he said Jonathan is very weak to approach insecurity mean while the same Obasanjo is the person that endorsed Jonathan for the 2011 presidential election claiming he want to solve the problems of minority agitation in Nigeria but after Jonathan's first tenure as president. Obasanjo turned against him over night he dumped his position as chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) board of trustees - a position he fought very hard to keep and he even tore his PDP membership card and ditched the party just to oppose Jonathan.
In 2015, Obasanjo endorsed Buhari to be the new Nigerian president, to succeed incumbent, Goodluck Jonathan.
Obasanjo declared that he has confidence in the All Progressives Congress,APC Presidential candidate, General Muhammed Buhari because he was a trained military officer.
Obasanjo said in the course of the interview: "The circumstances he (Buhari) will be working under if he wins the elections are different from the one he worked under before, where he was both the executive and the legislature – he knows that. He is smart enough. He is educated enough. He’s experienced enough. Why shouldn’t I support him?".
In another interview: former President Olusegun Obasanjo said that the current Nigerian leader, Muhammadu Buhari, has not disappointed him since he assumed office in 2015. Obasanjo stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria at his hilltop residence in Abeokuta.
While reflecting on the Buhari administration since 2015, Obasanjo said that the president had done his best to move the country forward.
He stated “Whatever anybody says, President Buhari has not disappointed me from what I know of him,’’ he said.
He said the president had delivered on his core areas of strength and ability, particularly in the anti-corruption crusade and the war against insurgency.
I also used to think that he is not strong in the area of foreign affairs, but I have realized that he has improved very well.
“He has actually done his best in the areas where we know him to be strong,” he said.
The elder statesman urged Nigerians not to relent in their support for Buhari and not to give up on Nigeria.
The problem of Obasanjo and Buhari started late last year/ early this year.
In one of the interview Obasanjo said Mr Buhari was not healthy enough to withstand the rigor associated with running a country like Nigeria neither does his party capable of providing the answer needed to sail the country through its difficulties mean while the same Obasanjo endorsed Buhari in 2015 presidential election.
Besides geopolitical interests i just enumerated above, Obasanjo hates rivalry. Particularly, he hates to be alive and see any of his close successors also become two-term presidents of Nigeria like him. OBJ’s fears are fully understandable especially given his determination to be seen and called “Father of Modern Nigeria.” That’s why the fear that if any person should become a two-term president of Nigeria the person's legacies could overshadow his and most important rubbish his political godfather status.
The same politics he played during Jonathan's regime is the same politics he's trying to play in Buhari's regime.
So who is the enemy of democracy?.
Long live Nigeria.
