Little girl, Age 11 was controllingly pushed into Marriage in USA

At age 11, woman from Florida claimed she was forcefully pushed into marriage.

Sherry Johnson further disclosed she was rape four times by her church members as a child and resulted to pregnancy at age 10.

She also said her family forced her into marrying one of them in a way to cover the rapist.

Sherry Johnson told The New York Times, “My mom asked me if I wanted to get married, and I said, ‘I don’t know, what is marriage, how do I act like a wife?’” . “She said, ‘Well, I guess you’re just going to get married.’”

Florida is among the 27 US states that allows children of any age to be married with their parents’ permission.

Sherry also discloses how her marriage stopped her from attending school. She would instead take care of her children as she gave birth to nine children and also fought with her husband and because of finances.

“It was a terrible life,” Ms Johnson said.

As it was against her will, the marriage broke up.

Ms Johnson later wrote a book about her story, called “Forgiving the Unforgivable”.

"Marriage is an adult responsibility," sherry said. "We don't want them to vote, we don't want them to drink alcohol, they can't drive a car, and we allow them to marry under 16?"

“You can’t get a job, you can’t get a car, you can’t get a license, you can’t sign a lease,” Sherry Johnson told The New York Times, “so why allow someone to marry when they’re still so young?”
